The Arab Economists Circle, partner of the YML
The Arab Economists Circle is a think tank created in April 2009 in Paris. Its ambition is to lead discussions and meetings around the economic and financial issues the Arab Countries face nowadays, and to initiate works of research. The Circle brings together figures from different spheres, such as economic journalists and chief executives from the private sector, from international or private organizations. The Circle will be one of the partners of the YML to reflect on the creation of a North African think tank.
The main purpose of this Circle is to lead debates about the economical challenges of Arab countries: economic policies (growth factors, industrial and energy policies, employment, reduction of the informal sector, healthcare and retirement system), financial and monetary policies, etc. In addition to regular meetings of its members, the Circle intends to organize various events and to communicate in the media and in specific publications. In this perspective, the Circle has organized, a month ago, a conference around the topic: “Arab banks facing the crisis”, led by M. Anouar Hassoun, from MOODY'S (Organized in partnership with the Circle of Foreign Banks in France) and " The Crisis and the Islamic Finances ", moderated by Professor Ibrahim Warde, from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. A third conference was foreseen: " The conditions for sustainability of financial and socioeconomic models in Lebanon ", by Charbel Nahas; who was appointed Minister of Telecommunications the day before.
The Circle is presided by Mr. Samir Aita, Le Monde Diplomatique’s Editor in chief and managing director for the Arabic editions, surrounded by personalities such as Fadi Halout, Karim Bitar, Mohamed Ali Marouani, Moncef Cheik-Rouhou or Akram Belkaïd.
